IT is the study of facilitating learning and improving performance by creating, using and managing appropriate technological processes and resources.

Simply put, IT relies on scientific principles drawn from information processing theory, communications theory, cognitive psychology, instructional psychology, and multiple learning theories to design, develop, and deliver customized learning solutions for the workplace, factory floor, classroom, or non-profit venture.

Note that IT also goes by different names, such as instructional systems technology and educational technology.  Regardless of the same, it’s essentially the same process.
